Professional Help

At first sight, this can seem to be a legit option…, after all we all go to the doctor when something is wrong with us. Although it sounds like a good choice there are some things you must take into account.

First of all, probably your doctor isn’t an alcoholic, he won’t understand what you’re going through. And although there are certain types of medication such as naltrexone, that can help with alcohol cravings, they’re very expensive and aren’t for everybody. Furthermore, if you’ve been drinking for some time and think a pill is going to solve your problems, it’s very probable that you’ll continue drinking even while taking the pill. Or you may end up claiming that the pill doesn’t work at all.

However, it must be said that there are understanding and reasonable doctors who will probably refer you to a psychotherapist for the right kind of help. Others, are sadly stuck with the “old way” of doing things and will probably just judge your behavior.
